Diploma of Fashion Design program offered by CIDI Chanapatana includes both technical and creative aspects and the student, while elaborating his own personal style, acquires that knowledge which is indispensable for the undertaking of this exciting profession. During the course of this program various arguments and lessons will be discussed, including history, textiles, and business, in particular the study and analysis of the marketplace. An important part of the training is directed towards the actual production of the garments in a collection which will be created by the students in the well equipped laboratories of the institute, in such a way that the creative phase and the design phase may always be a test of the wearability. All types of clothing are discussed, from the casual style to elegant, from classic to avant-garde fashion. The professional preparation thus is complete and at the end of the two year program the student is ready to enter the workplace. The basic courses (first and second semester) are directed at the instruction of the fundamental basics, while the advanced courses (third and fourth semester) build upon this basic knowledge and aims at specialization.
In May, FD students are supported to organize a fashion show, which is a part of annual thesis exhibition, in a leading commercial area. They will learn not only finishing their own collection from design to actual costumes, but also how to run the real show. Tasks like model selection, choreographing, fitting, backstage management, or presentation complete their learning process to the point that they are ready to become a fashion designer.
