Who is CIDI Chanapatana founder? How long has CIDI Chanapatana operated?

Chanapatana International Design Institute or CIDI (pronounced “Cee-I-Dee-I”) was founded in 2000 under Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo Foundation. It aims to develop Thailand ‘s design human resources to be competitive in international landscape, as well as to be able to establish Thai brands in the global market.

Who are CIDI Chanapatana management and administration?

The management team and administration officers are a volunteer team serving Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo Foundation at no remuneration. The team led by President Dr.Sakron Suksriwong, who is currently a special lecturer at Chulalongkorn University and a top executive of private and public organizations, consists of high-level executives from private corporations in various fields who wish to share their passion for developing Thailand design capabilities.

Since the institute is a non-profit organization, how can I trust the professional quality of educational management here?

In fact, CIDI Chanapatana students can benefit from the nature of non-profit organization here because tuition fee for Thai students is partly subsidized by Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo Foundation. Despite that fact, the administration of this institute is managed by highly experienced executives from educational and private organizations. Therefore, you can be assured that the quality of education at CIDI Chanapatana is not compromised.

Does CIDI Chanapatana have any academic cooperation with other universities?

CIDI Chanapatana has achieved academic cooperation of various types with public universities e.g. Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Phranakhon Rajabhat University, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, Thonburi Rajabhat University, Chulalongkorn Business Administration, Chulalongkorn University. Several public universities have sent their instructors to study at CIDI Chanapatana.

CIDI’ students also take the advantage from the international collaborations with our partners in Mexico, Italy, Spain, UK, and France for both the academic semester exchange and also the further studies with transferred credits of the program.

Does CIDI Chanapatana have any professional cooperation with other organizations?

CIDI Chanapatana has established professional cooperation with a number of well-known organizations. For example, Thai Yamaha Motor and CC-OO brand  in form of awarding scholarship to study Diploma programs at CIDI Chanapatana to the winners of particularly selected contests arranged by them. CIDI Chanapatana also cooperated with Thailand Textile Institute (THTI) to, for example, mutually exchange researches & knowledge in design industry.

Does applicant need to have at least M.6 or equivalent educational background?

Yes, it does. CIDI Chanapatana requires such qualification to ensure the high quality of class. Also, it is the similar requirements in international institutes.

Does applicant need to have at least M.6 or equivalent educational background?

Given the nature of the curriculum, CIDI Chanapatana only and annually offers admission for September intake.

Does CIDI Chanapatana require standardized English test e.g. TOELF, IELTS or TOEIC?

No. Even though CIDI Chanapatana currently does not require any standardized English proficiency score, we require average English skill of all applicants. We also strongly encourage applicants to improve their verbal English skills to obtain the highest benefit from classes.

Does applicant need to have educational or professional background in design?

Not at all. We have experienced a number of gradates who barely draw line correctly in the first day become successful designers. CIDI Chanapatana students learn from the beginning of how to draw, choosing material, to finish up their own collections and projects.

What will I get from CIDI Chanapatana diploma program if I've already had a degree in design?

CIDI Chanapatana students ranged from non-experience novice to experienced professional can benefit from integrative, inspiration-driven curriculum. For years, we have experienced an award-winning interior designer, as well as public university professor, enrolling at CIDI Chanapatana to improve their practices. CIDI Chanapatana curriculum emphasizes how to create works from individual inspiration, not merely technical skills. How does CIDI Chanapatana curriculum be accredited?

2-year curriculum at CIDI Chanapatana is similar to those being conducted in Italy. Curriculum from Italy is certified by Italian Ministry of Public Education.

How long does it take to finish the diploma programs?

The CIDI Chanapatana international diploma program is divided into 5 semesters and can be completed in a minimum of 2 years.

Who do teach me?

Rotating rosters of the faculty are selected to teach at CIDI Chanapatana as in-residence professors. Unlike those who teach in some other international programs which professors can stay in Thailand for the only short period, CIDI Chanapatana professor generally stays in Bangkok at least one semester to fully deliver their knowledge and experience. This approach enriches CIDI Chanapatana learning experience by allowing faculty to monitor and advise students for their development from the first day of the semester until the outcome of curriculum happens.

As the classes will be conducted in English, CIDI Chanapatana provides teaching assistants in classes to help those whose English becomes communication barrier.

 

What is the class-time?

CIDI Chanapatana classes are conducted at our campus in Sukhumvit 101 (Dhammamongkol Temple). Classes are scheduled from 10.00 a .m. to 5.00 p.m. on ‘Monday and Tuesday’ or ‘Saturday and Sunday’. Some workshop classes may be conducted in other schedules which will be announced in advance.

How many students are in each class?

To maintain high educational standard, maximum class size is 40 students.

What kinds of scholarship do CIDI Chanapatana offer? What are qualifications of scholarship candidate?

Generally, CIDI Chanapatana offers two types of scholarship.

International Scholarship: The scholarship aims to accelerate development of Thai designers by sponsoring CIDI Chanapatana graduate in each program to further their study in Italy for one year. Scholarship fund covers tuition fee and specified living expenses. Conditions are applied for scholarship winners.

Other scholarships: In special occurrence, CIDI Chanapatana will offer scholarship as deemed appropriate.

 

What degree would I receive after graduation? Where can I transfer CIDI Chanapatana credit to?

Each CIDI Chanapatana student who passed all academic requirements will be awarded a Diploma co-signed by the Chairman (Phra Thepjetiyajarn) and the President of CIDI Chanapatana. CIDI Chanapatana graduates are ‘eligible’ to transfer credits to further their study in ‘Master’ level program (not Master degree) in Italy.

Students are into continuing to further study, can transfer the CIDI’ credits to IED ( Instituto Europeo di Design ) in Italy and Spain for the Bachelor Degree and or Master of Arts Degree according to the official agreement between IED and CIDI. The academic degree could be completed within 2 years or 1 year in IED (* condition are applied, please contact faculty for more information). In addition, during the regular program in CIDI, the students can apply the semester 3 exchange with IED and UDEM to enhance the cross-culture experience and obtain the credits before completion the Diploma programs in CIDI. What would be a career after graduation?

CIDI Chanapatana has constantly exposed institute and student works to public especially to design-related organizations. Students therefore have opportunities to exhibit their works and been selected to be published in leading media. Generally CIDI Chanapatana graduates pursue their career in design as designers, freelances, and entrepreneurs. Successful alumni made their ways to Thailand leading designer houses, became a university professor, and start their own businesses.

Can I actually make dresses by myself after 2 years in Diploma of Fashion Design program?

Yes. Even though you may not wish to be only a tailor or dressmaker, fashion design students are required to learn pattern design, prototype creation, and tailoring technique until they can make their own collections available on runway of annual thesis exhibition presented to the public.

How do students can exhibit their work? Is there an art thesis exhibition for students?

CIDI Chanapatana has a policy to exhibit students’ work in leading commercial area like Siam Center, Siam Discovery or CentralWorld. CIDI also encourages students to gain experience in designing and organizing exhibition. Graduating students are required to organize an annual art thesis exhibition including a fashion show to highlight thier works to public as well as design enthusiasts.

Every year our hallmark annual thesis exhibiton has continually gain recognition from leading media both domestic and international. Various types of media like CNN, BBC, Asian Wall Street Journal , Thailand television e.g. ch.3, 5, 7, 9, 11, ITV, Thairat, Dailynews, Krungthep Thurakij, Bangkok Post , Post Today have featured CIDI Chanapatana.
